Computer
vs Banjo (Diagram Records), from Nashville. If you've always
pigeonholed folk and electronica as polar opposites, Computer
vs Banjo will make you rethink everything you thought about
both. The genre-bendinig band fuses finger-picked folk with experimental
beats to create a full, original sound. Hard to believe CVB
is just a duo! Made up of Johnny Mann from Gran Torino and Beau
Stapleton from Blue Merle, Computer vs Banjo show incredible
skills as songwriters and multi-instrumentalists. They play and
program everything from synths to dobro and pioneer a sound that
is TRULY their own. Lead single, "Give Up on Ghosts"
impacts Underground Radio Friday, August 15. You can learn
more here.
Olympus
Mons (self-release), from Pittsburgh, PA. Yet another stunning
band from the PGH. Instantly memorable songs played with an unrivaled
intensity, Olympus Mons bring it with every single track.
Picking a single was hard, but Hours impacts Underground
Radio Friday, August 29. The band remain mysterious with only
images and sounds on their site,
and perhaps that's all you need. They let the music speak for itself.
The
Shys (Aeronaut Records), from Spanish Village by the Sea,
CA . For The Shys, its been an interesting and fun
ride. Like the music industry itself, there have been ups and downs.
But one thing that hasnt changed is the ease with which The
Shys make new fans. After causing a stir in 2005 with their
debut EP on Aeronaut, The Shys continued to impress with
their first full length, Astoria, on Sire Records, in 2007. The
Shys recently finished second full length album, "You'll
Never Understand This Band the Way I Do" for Aeronaut,
and they plan to head back out on tour to see old friends and to
make new ones. And with the types of performances The Shys
are known for, it shouldnt be long before everyone knows them.
And vice-versa. Lead single, "The Hangman",
impacts Underground Radio Friday, August 22. You can learn more
here.
