Current Roots Artists
Jon Gindick (self-released), from Malibu, CA. Guitar and harmonica king Jon Gindick has long been known as one of the most exciting harmonica players and teachers on the international scene. His books on playing blues harmonica have sold over a million copies. His Mississippi Delta Blues Harmonica Jam Camps held several times a year in Clarksdale, Mississippi are world-famous. His act as a single performer, playing harmonica & guitar and singing his songs has opened festivals, and earned standing ovations. Now Jon, and his all pro buddies have formed an ensemble that showcases that songs from Jon's new album, "When We Die, We All Come Back As Music", produced and accompanied by Ralph Carter. We hope you enjoy the music. lead single, "When We Die" goes for ADDS July 16. You can learn more here.
Jones Street Station (Smith Street), from NYC. Jones Street Station are ready for their debut… Again. Though the simple grace of 2007’s Overcome extends to the band’s second effort, In Verses, “This is really our first record as five people coming from five different places,” explains singer and harmonica/accordion player Jonathan Hull. To wit, In Verses marks the studio debut of drummer Sam Rockwell, the emergence of four lead singers, and the addition of roadhouse rock and straight ahead pop to strains of Americana and soulful country-folk. The evolution of the group is, according to mandolinist and singer Danny Erker, due to fact that “Each member of this band is capable of fronting one on his own. We've each got different skills and tastes, so when we’re lucky, we wind up with a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts— it’s a beautiful show of strength in numbers.” Lead single, "Flyover State" goes for ADDS July 16. You can learn more about my favorite live band here.
D.B. Rielly (Shut Up & Play!), from NYC. D.B. Rielly was born in the hearts and minds of lonely widows. He was raised by traveling vacuum cleaner salesmen and fed a strict diet of Cream of Wheat and Gilligan's Island until, at the age of three, he was sent off to receive his education at the "I Don't Like Your Attitude, Young Man, Academy of Discipline". If you dig Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams or Texas Tornaos, you will likely enjoy what D.B. Rielly grew up to be: a man with a squeezebox, tellin' tales of how HE sees things. Heck, the album even comes with a guarantee...of sorts. Says DB, "I personally guarantee that if these here concocted remedies fail to eliminate all the trouble & woe that befall man or beast, I'll eat a bug." Now this bold statement goes National as lead tracks, the heart-tugging "Save All Your Kisses" and playful raucous ditty "I Got a Girlfriend" (see the video by clicking here) Go For ADDS August 30-31. You can learn more here.
Rig the Jig (Toucan Cove), from Ireland. It was an otherwise ordinary night when a group of musicians found themselves together at a pub session back in 1996. They didn’t know it at the time, but that informal meeting ignited a spark that grew into one of the brightest and warmest lights of today’s Irish folk music scene. Some of the faces may have changed over the years, but Rig the Jig has proven itself as a byword for wonderfully organic, talented and energetic performances of music and song. It is truly a rare breed. Not many bands have transcended the sum of their parts to become an entity with a life force of its own. Of course, the finest folk group can only exist with the finest ingredients. And in Rig the Jig, Irish and American folk songs find the captivating, story-telling voice of some of the best in the business. Lead single, "High and Dry", which was originally done by Radiohead, goes for ADDS July 30. You can get more info here.
